The winners of 9th Ukraine Local Final of Research Challenge are announced

On Friday, March 01, 2019 at Premier Hotel Rus CFA Society Ukraine announced teams of Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman (Nina Zamidra, Irina Postol, Igor Shkolny, Artur Irklii, Andrew Gryshchuk; Faculty Adviser: Olena Cherniavska and Mentor: Zakhar Deriuga) and Kyiv School of Economics (Valeria Ovcharenko, Natalie Soldatenko, Anatolii Hlazunov, Mykova Shyshov; Faculty Adviser: Nivievskyi and Mentor: Anton Zhdanov, CFA) as winners of the Ukraine Local Final of 2019 CFA Institute Research Challenge. The teams are now advanced to the EMEA Region where they will compete against universities from Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

This year more than 180 students in 30 teams from 24 leading Universities in 12 regions of Ukraine participated in the Research Challenge - most prestigious world-wide student competition in equity research. Each team had two months to write the real sell-side report with buy, sell or hold recommendation on Nestle and 16 teams with the highest scores on the written research reports were announced as finalists of this season local competition. Among this year's finalists:

    • Odessa National Economics University (Team Captain: Denis Negrul)

    • Odessa National I.I. Mechnikov University (Team Captain: Iulia Ciumac)

    • Oles Honchar Dnipro National University (Team Captain: Oleksandr Kurchenko)

    • State University of Infrastructure and Technology (Team Captain: Iryna Kyrychenko)

    • Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Team Captain: Maryna Oproshchenko)

    • The Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman (Team Captain: Olha Honcharenko)

    • The Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman (Team Captain: Ihor Shkolnyi)

    • The V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Team Captain: Dmitry Nosenko)

    • University of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, Irpin (Team Captain: Volodymyr Khomenko)

    • Vasyl' Stus Donetsk National University, Vinnytsia (Team Captain: Artem Stetsiuk)

The Final Round started with the announcement of the teams that were advanced due to the combined score of written report and presentation scores based Semi-Final Round. The super finalists became:

    • Kyiv School of Economics (Team Captain: Anatolii Hlazunov)

    • Kyiv School of Economics (Team Captain: Nazarii Hrechanyk)

    • The Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman (Team Captain: Olha Honcharenko)

    • The Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman (Team Captain: Ihor Shkolnyi)

Each university sent one or two team(s) of three-to-five students to participate in the local challenge. The Ukraine Local Final was the first step of two for a local team to advance towards the global final in Prague. The students from the Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv will now travel to the Regional Final to be held in Dublin, Ireland in April 2018, where they will match their wits, analytical skills and presentation abilities against other student teams from Europe, Middle East, and Africa. The winners of the three Regionals (Americas, EMEA, and Asia Pacific) will then advance to compete in the Global Final.

Over 50 experienced investment professionals agreed to support the contest by volunteering as mentors, graders, and judges sharing their expertise and knowledge with a new generation of analysts. The pool of investment professionals includes representatives from investment banks, consulting companies, international financial institutions, equity funds etc. The competition could not succeed without the efforts of the volunteers, hence we would like to say exceptional thank you to all engaged investment professionals for their support and contribution!
