The Winners of 2018 Ukraine Local Final of CFA Institute Research Challenge - Teams of KNEU and Taras Shevchenko National University

On Friday, February 23, 2018 at Mercure Kyiv Congress CFA Society Ukraine announced teams of Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman (Team: Vlada Zasypko, Olha Bahdrivska, Roman Pavyuk, Yevhen Siedov, Oleksii Yermolenko; Faculty Adviser: Olena Tsyrkun and Mentor: Maksym Perets) and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Team: Bohdan Yakymchuk, Melaniia Volkodav, Dmytro Klapushynskyi, Oleh Kabanov, Andrii Diakiv; Faculty Adviser: Elena Liubkina and Mentor: Dmytriy Holovchuk, CFA) as winners of the Ukraine Local Final of 2017-2018 CFA Institute Research Challenge. The teams are now advanced to the EMEA Region where they will compete against universities from Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

This year more than 180 students in 36 teams from 27 leading University in 12 regions of Ukraine participated in the Research Challenge - most prestigious world-wide student competition in equity research. Each team had two months to write the real sell-side report with buy, sell or hold recommendation on Luxoft and 16 teams with the highest scores on the written research reports were announced as finalists of this season local competition. Among this year's finalists:

    • Odessa National Economic University (Faculty Adviser: Olena Goncharenko)

    • Odessa National University named after I.I. Mechnikova (Faculty Adviser: Nataliya Bychkova)

    • Oles Honchar Dnipropetrovsk National University (Faculty Adviser: Nataly Krasnikova)

    • Lviv Polytechnic National Universityy (Faculty Adviser: Tetiana Kulinich)

    • Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Faculty Adviser: Elena Liubkina)

    • The National Pedagogical Dragomanov University (Faculty Adviser: Olga Chyzhevska)

    • The National University of Food Technologies (Faculty Adviser: Kateryna Bagatska)

    • Vasyl' Stus Donetsk National University (Faculty Adviser: Laktionova Oleksandra)

The Final Round started with announcement of the teams that were advanced due to the combined score of written report and presentation scores based Semi-Final Round. The super finalists became:

    • Kyiv National Economics University

    • Kyiv School of Economics

    • Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv

    • Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics

Each university sent one or two team(s) of three-to-five students to participate in the local challenge. The Ukraine Local Final was the first step of two for a local team to advance towards the global final in Prague. The students from the Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv will now travel to the Regional Final to be held in Dublin, Ireland in April 2018, where they will match their wits, analytical skills and presentation abilities against other student teams from the Europe, Middle East, and Africa. The winners of the three Regionals (Americas, EMEA, and Asia Pacific) will then advance to compete in the Global Final.

Over 65 experienced investment professionals agreed to support the contest by volunteering as mentors, graders and judges sharing their expertise and knowledge with new generation of analysts. The pool of investment professionals include representatives from investment banks, consulting companies, international financial institutions, equity funds etc. The competition could not succeed without efforts of the volunteers, hence we would like to say exceptional thank you to all engaged investment professionals for their support and contribution!
