KICK-OFF MEETING OF THE 3RD CFA INSTITUTE RESEARCH CHALLENGE IN UKRAINE

More than 120 students and faculty advisors from 25 Ukrainian universities as well as mentors from leading investment, consulting and audit companies gathered for the Kick Off Meeting of the 3rd CFA Institute Research Challenge in Ukraine at the Hall of Institute of Postgraduate Education on October 30th, 2012.
The participants and guests were congratulated with the start of the Challenge by Tatiana Nichosova, Ph.D, CFA, Founding Chair of CFA Institute Research Challenge in Ukraine, who welcomed participants and opened the Local level of the Challenge in Ukraine.
After Tatiana’s welcoming speech, Andriy Bespyatov, Ph.D, CFA, President of CFA Ukraine Society, told about the organizers of the competition: CFA Institute and CFA Ukraine Society. During his speech Mr. Bespyatov outlined the essence of CFA program and underlined the role CFA designation in the investment profession.
Special guest of the Challenge, Anna Tereshkova, Senior Relationship Manager/Country Manager for Ukraine at Bloomberg gave a content-rich harangue to the participants on “Unparalleled breadth & depth of information from a single source”. Ms. Tereshkova stressed on importance of utilizing reliable information and reviewed existing as well as new Bloomberg services. This year Bloomberg provide all the participants with one month trial access to Bloomberg Professional Service. On the session on Getting involved into Investment Profession Tatiana Nichosova Ph.D, CFA, Vice-President of University Liaison at CFA Ukraine, told about how important the Ethics in the investment research is highlighted the deep importance of ethics and professionalism that should be inherent to every person who work at the financial market. During the Meeting all the participants have a chance to hear Elena Matviychuk, Professional Recruiter, who came out with key points of successful interview and shared with the students her knowledge, experience and outlined the steps in developing their career. The session was continued by the speech of Tatiana Milko, ACCA, Manager at Audit, KMPG, on the topic of “How to make a brilliant career in audit?”. All the participants of this season’s Challenge have highly appreciated her advices of building career and success story of becoming highly experienced auditor. Oleg Prohorenko, Engagement Manager at McKinsey and Company, in its turn told about particularities giving a few practice advices of working in McKinsey and Company. His speech was followed by the short word of Aleksandr Kravchenko, Associate at McKinsey and Company, who shared with students his success story of building career in consultancy.
After the short break participant had a meeting with the management of the Subject company. This year the position of a Subject Company has been undertaken by KERNEL – one of the leading agri-business companies in Ukraine. Yegor Samusenko, Investor Relations Manager at KERNEL presented the company and answered the questions of the future financial analysts. This year all participants will have a chance to get practice advices from 25 leading experts of Ukraine in the field of research. On behalf of CFA Ukraine Society we would like to express our deep appreciation to our mentors. Enriched by fresh knowledge students were invited to the dinner with their industry mentors. Two hard working months are ahead for the participants of the 3rd CFA Institute Research Challenge in Ukraine. The first class research reports should be prepared with the advice of industry mentor and help of faculty advisor to be among one of the first teams that would have a chance to present their findings to the expert panel of judges on February 21, 2013.
