The winner of the Ukraine Final of the Research Challenge is Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman

On Friday, February 12, 2016 at ALFAVITO Hotel Kyiv CFA Society Ukraine announced team of Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman as a winner of the Ukraine Final of 2015-2016 CFA Institute Research Challenge. The team is now advanced to the EMEA Region where it will compete against universities from Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

The Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman team consists Ivan Zabila, Olha Zhdanova, Vitaliy Stukan, Yevgeniya Andryeyeva, Mykola Salikhov; Faculty Adviser – Larysa Antoniuk; Mentor: Tetiana Minkovska.

This year more than 120 students from 21 leading University in 12 regions of Ukraine participated in the Research Challenge - most prestigious world-wide student competition in equity research. 

Each team had two months to write the real sell-side report with buy, sell or hold recommendation on publicly traded company. This year the role of Subject Company was played by Bayer Group. Supporting students in their hard-working, Thomson Reuters, as an Information Sponsor, provided them with trial access to their terminals.

For the chance to represent Ukraine at the EMEA Regional Final competed 10 teams with the highest scores on the written research reports: 

  • Donetsk National University (Faculty Adviser: Oleksandra Laktionova)
  • Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (Faculty Adviser: Bohdan Lapchuk)
  • Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman (Faculty Adviser: Larysa Antoniuk)
  • Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics (Faculty Adviser: Larysa Netrebchuk)
  • Kyiv School of Economics (Faculty Adviser: Tom Coupe)
  • Lviv Polytechnic National University (Faculty Adviser: Tetyana Kulinich)
  • National University of State Tax Service of Ukraine (Faculty Adviser: Olga Pizhuk)
  • Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics (Faculty Adviser: Natalia Vnukova)
  • Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Faculty Adviser: Mariya Borovikova)
  • Ternopil National Economic University (Faculty Adviser: Serhiy Vinnytskyy) 

The Final Round started with announcement of the teams that were advanced due to the combined score of written report and presentation scores based Semi-Final Round. The super finalists became:

  • Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman
  • Kyiv School of Economics
  • Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv
  • Ivan Franko National University of Lviv

Each university sent one or two team(s) of three-to-five students to participate in the local challenge. The Ukraine Local Final was the first step of two for a local team to advance towards the global final in Atlanta. The students from the Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman will now travel to the Regional Final to be held in Chicago, Illinois, USA in April 2016, where they will match their wits, analytical skills and presentation abilities against other student teams from the Europe, Middle East, and Africa. The winners of the three Regionals (Americas, EMEA, and Asia Pacific) will then advance to compete in the Global Final.
